Trips Galleries 2019

The Dali Theatre-Museum,  Figueres.

In November 2019 during our trip to Figueres we travelled to Barcelona to visit the Dali Theatre-Museum.

Dali said: “I want my museum to be like a single block, a labyrinth, a great surrealist object. It will be a totally theatrical museum. The people who come to see it will leave with the sensation of having had a theatrical dream. Everyone should consider the museum as a work of art in itself, but totally devoid of exhaustive explanations. This means that everyone can make conclusions from what they see that are more consubstantial to their psychology and their cosmogony.”

The final section, situated in an annexe, was a display of jewellery and various jewelled items designed by Dali. Dali said “ the jewelled pieces were not created to rest soullessly in steel vaults. They were created to please the eye, uplift the spirit, stir the imagination, express convictions. Without an audience, without the presence of spectators, these jewels would not fulfil the function for which they came into being. The viewer, then, is the ultimate artist. His sight, heart, mind - fusing with and grasping with greater or lesser understanding the intent of the creator - gives them life”.

Banos de Fortuna

On Friday July 5th, a total of 46 members of the U3A marina Baixa left Albir for a day out at Banos de Fortuna. Everyone, whether able bodied or having reduced mobility, were able to enjoy the benefits of the numerous pools and spa features at La Fuente.

After around 3 hours of swimming and stimulating jacuzzi pools, interspersed with the odd liquid refreshment at the bar, the members retired to the restaurant for a 4-course meal.

Some members ventured into the waters again after lunch before leaving for the return trip to Albir at 5pm.

On the 14th March 2019 the U3A Marina Baixa travel group, enjoyed a wonderful day at Cofrentes!

We left Albir at 8.00am, on quite a chilly morning and on the way, we stopped at Almansa for breakfast, before continuing our journey to the riverside, which is about  2 Km from Cofrentes town centre. The weather was by now amazing and the group were shedding several layers of clothing by this stage!

We then all boarded our cruise ship, which runs from Cofrentes to Cortes de Pallas. It is a 30 km cruise on waters with depths of up to 100 meters, with canyon walls up to 400 meters high and the views were breathtaking.

Following the cruise, we travelled to the Balneario Hotel and Health resort, for a lovely Buffet Lunch. We did not have time to explore the area around the Hotel, which also has natural medicinal springs, health and wellness treatments, plus a 9 hole pitch & putt golf course, but it is a somewhere for a future visit!

We then travelled back to Cofrentes, where only 9 of us had the energy to travel the 200 steps to get to the top of the Castle and we had an excellent guide who gave us a very informative tour, while  the rest of the group stayed in the local bar!!!

We arrived back in Albir at 20.15pm, a very happy, but tired group!

Many thanks to our Travel Group organisers, Malcolm and Margaret Hammer, for a brilliant day out.
