U3A Marina Baixa Back in Business
Last Monday,28 September, 60 Members plus two visitors, met at the Casa de Cultura, Alfazdel Pi, for our first General Meeting since February.
To follow strict guidelines, two Committee Members were at the entrance to greetmembers, letting them in two at a time where they were asked to hand sanitise and wear their masks at all times whilst in the building.
In the foyer, there were desks for Signing in, Membership Card collection, booking in for Wine & Dine events, plus our Charity Raffle Ladies, all spaced out and limited to two people at a desk at a time.
Following the meeting, several of the Group Leaders spoke briefly about their groups, some of which have now re-started. These were the Craft Group, Watercolour Group, Spanish Culture, Classical Music, Chaps, Chatter & Coffee and Sunday Strollers. The Petanca Group is hoping to start again shortly and are waiting for confirmation from the Municipality that the pitches are open again.
Several of the Members then went for an excellent lunch at Oasis Restaurant in La Nucia.
U3A Marina Baixa Celebrating our Secretary’s 10 years Service
Last Sunday, Joan Flint celebrated her 10 years as Secretary of the U3A Marina Baixa, in typical fashion, by putting on a fabulous three course Sunday Lunch for the other Committee Members and their spouses.
During Joan’s leadership, the U3A has seen many changes, including the growth of the membership, several change of meeting venues due to the increasing numbers, plus dealt with changes to the U3A Constitution, which were all handled superbly.
As well as her Secretarial duties, she has also run the three levels of the Spanish Language Group for the last 11 years and many of the Members are hugely grateful to her for passing her knowledge on to them.
Apart from her Secretarial expertise, Joan along with hubby Bill, is a brilliant Hostess and they have held many events in their garden for the membership, with up to 100 attendees. She has also organized “Ye Old Tea Shop” at the Alfaz del Pi and La Nucia International Days on many occasions.
So after 10 years of fantastic service to the U3A Marina Baixa……On behalf of all the Members, Thank You Joan for all that you have done for us!
