On Sunday 4th July 50 members of the U3A sat down to a great BBQ at the home of Carol and John in Altea La Vella. Our best ever turn out so far since the inauguration of the U3A Marina Baixa.

The morning was slightly overcast and threatened rain but tables were laid under the terraces and by the time people arrived at 1.00 pm the Spanish weather had returned.   Eight tables were set out with a pretty pot plants adorning each one.

The meal started off with Allioli, bread and alitas, followed by entremeses, Russian salad, egg mayonnaise and tricolori salad. Martin, our Chef for the afternoon, cooked marinated chicken drumsticks and sausages for all 50 members.  Everybody tucked into these accompanied by new potatoes, and two different salads. You would have thought that after this amount of food people would have been full up, but no, they all queued up to pile their plates with a delicious assortment of desserts!! If you see any members running or joining the gym you will know why.

Furthermore certain members, no names mentioned, then proceeded to taste the home made Limoncello which was 50% proof!!  This recipe will certainly go into one of our Newsletters as there was a lot of interest in how it was made.

During the afternoon a “Baby Competition” took place. Members had provided a baby photo and then everyone had to match that up with the present day U3A member.  Also a “Dingbats” competition was held during the course of the afternoon which proved most successful.

Without doubt this was our best ever attended event with everyone leaving having made some new friends as well as chatting to old friends as well.
